WoW Factor US-Shadowmoon Alliance Follow-up

Shadowmoon US Alliance played host to the WoW Factor and a rather unexpected visitor this week.

With the release of Diablo III less than a week ago, we were expecting attendance at the Shadowmoon event to be somewhat less than usual, but the turnout was surprisingly good and there were more than enough excellent outfits on display. Caylena joined the team as a guest judge for a second time, providing solid commentary as we worked our way around the crowd of participants in Stormwind Cathedral.

After a slight technical hiccup at the start, the event ran smoothly, with the sole exception of an unexpected gate-crasher, clearly eager to participate in the contest. We’re no strangers to Horde raids at our Alliance events, but this time it was Horde NPC’s causing some disruption, not players.

Venya Marthand, a level 10 undead NPC from Tirisfal Glades, has frequently been mind controlled and brought to Stormwind in recent weeks. Why? She’s immortal. For all of their efforts, the pack of ten or so Stormwind guards failed to bring her down as they weaved around the cathedral in a flurry of swinging blades. Despite the perpetual NPC brawl, we were able to conduct the judging without much hassle. We hope Venya enjoyed the event!

Sponsorship was kindly provided by realm local and moderator on Elvine’s TwitchTV, Datbeard. Initially he put forward 100,000 gold for the event, but added an extra 10k to the total when the judges had a hard time numbering the winners down to just the top three planned. We greatly appreciate the sponsorship as well as the bonus gold in the final round.

A complete livestream of the event with judge commentary is available at Elvinemod @ TwitchTV. More pictures from the event can be found on our Facebook page.

Competition Outline

The event consisted of two rounds of competition. As with last week, in the first round judges distributed a large portion of the total prize fund among participants as they saw fit. Initially we intended to select the top three outfits of the night in round two, but thanks to an extra last minute addition to the prize total, we were able to extend it to include four overall winners.

We also took two short intermissions, halfway through round one and between rounds one and two, in order to allow participants to switch their outfits if they so desired.

Read on below for a list of the winners and a screenshot gallery of the top 4 sets and runners-up!

I was thinking the exact same thing.

    Excuse but one question:

    http://us.battle.net/wow/en/character/shadowmoon/Nonamedkilla/simple

How this DK can have a weapon that disappear with WTLK?

    • Noelani says:

Whilst I’m not 100% certain that this is how it was done, the DK was seemingly able to transmog Corrupted Ashbringer using the following method:

Firstly the DK enters a dungeon/raid with another player who already has the real Corrupted Ashbringer. In the dungeon a two-handed sword drops, which the other player wins and then transmogs to look like Ashbringer. The other player then trades the two-handed sword to the DK, using the ability to free trade items to eligible recipients within a 2 hour window. At this point, the DK is then able to use the weapon with the Ashbringer appearance.

Again, I’m not entirely sure this is what the DK shown in the article has done, but it seems likely being that there are several WoW forum threads documenting this technique. I’m also unsure if this has been fixed or not and to what degree Blizzard tolerates it, although I’m certain that it’s not a hack or exploit per se, more of a loophole among the many convoluted transmogrification rules.
